SC Arts Commission Grant Awards

Operating Support for Small Organizations Grant Awards

Purpose

Operating Support for Small Organizations is designed as a simple way for small arts organizations to apply for S. C. Arts Commission general operating support funding. View the current guidelines >>>

All S.C. Arts Commission grant awards are contingent upon availability of funds, submission and approval of final reports, and compliance with program grant guidelines. Additional grants are awarded throughout the year.

Note to grantees: Notification of your award is provided through posting on this website, which you may consider official confirmation of your award until contract paperwork is issued.

FY2018 full-year grant awards have been finalized as of June 22, 2017. For questions about your award, please contact your coordinator.

Contracts are issued throughout the year, with paperwork for full-year grants (July 1 to June 30) generally mailed in fall of the award year. If you need an award letter before it arrives with your contract paperwork, please contact your coordinator.

Impact of Budget Vetoes on FY18 Operating Support Grants

On June 12, 2017, Governor McMaster issued 41 vetoes for the Fiscal Year 2017-18 state budget. Veto #24 would eliminate $350,000 in funds allocated to the South Carolina Arts Commission's FY18 budget. These new funds – approved by both the House and Senate – are to be awarded as grants to nonprofit community arts organizations statewide to support ongoing operations, programs, and staff development; and to accommodate new applications and reverse the erosion to award amounts that existing grantees have experienced in recent years. Funds will also support targeted grants in rural, underserved counties.

  • If the Governor's veto is sustained by the General Assembly, FY18 operating support grant awards for the listed organizations will decrease to the Flat Funding amount.
  • If the veto is overridden, awards to these organizations will increase to the New Funding amount.

At this time, we expect the legislature to vote in January 2018 on whether to sustain or override this veto. Contracts will be issued in fall of 2017 with a contingency clause to accommodate the outcome of the legislature's vote.
