Nina Liu owned and operated a successful gallery in Charleston, Nina Liu & Friends, for more than 25 years. Liu used her gallery as a platform for championing and promoting the visual arts, especially contemporary art by South Carolinians. Her work in nurturing artists included using an exciting and engaging process to teach arts patrons how to build a collection. A noted ceramicist, Liu’s own work is included in private and institutional collections throughout the U.S., including the State Art Collection. In 2011 the South Carolina Arts Commission recognized Liu’s contributions to the arts by presenting her with the South Carolina Governor’s Award for the Arts, which is the state’s highest arts award.
