Deane is a consummate artist with a heart, a conscience, and talent in spades. Deane approached UVA towards the ‘early’ end of the pandemic and offered to donate her collaborative art piece, Together While Apart. We love the story behind the piece and love that Deane honored the healthcare team at UVA.

The process seems intimidating at first, as I had no prior experience with plasma cutting or working with metal in a forge. Jamie is incredibly down-to-earth, very approachable, and the kids LOVED working with her. They are so proud of their final sculpture!
Alphaeus has worked in our district conducting music residencies at our summer enrichment camps and has also served as an adjudicator for many years for our gifted music program. He is amazing! He has a heart for kids and loves engaging them in music! He is kind, calm and genuine!
I discerned the leadership potential and musicianship in Alphaeus as a youth. He was always eager to learn the pedagogy of working with youth choirs and about music in general. The most valuable quality that he possesses is his humility which causes him to remain teachable, perfecting his craft.

As a teacher really enjoyed Ms. Kinnas’ constructive critiques of the haikus my students created about flowers. Her suggestion were insightful and useful. I appreciate her comments so much that we dedicated our ocean haikus students drafted at Creative Arts to present for BRAVO night 5/24/22.
Mrs. Riddle was our guest artist for our first CGS Family Arts Nights! She led our families in creating ceramic tile masterpieces. She was easy to coordinate with before the event. At the event she was enthusiastic, professional, and knowledgeable. We loved having her and plan to have her back!
Our school hosted two Family Arts Workshops and invited parents and students for a brief lesson in ceramic tile art and a workshop for creating individual tiles. Mrs. Riddle led the workshop both nights, and the feedback from our event was fantastic. Participants loved her lesson and enthusiasm!
Ms. Riddle was very patient while working with the students and families during this session. Materials were readily available and she reminded us we are all artist, just at different levels! She shared many facts about the school’s ABC grant and further arts resources. We enjoyed creating with her!
Mr. Fowler is naturally talented in relating to all students by displaying a love of music within the arts. The kids enjoy his company and he is very entertaining. He is easy to work with and reliable. His dedication and love of music show when he shares and teaches children. We love his visits!
Fat is an amazing instructor. He recently worked with our students in collaboration with SC Vocational Rehabilitation on a pilot project (Beats to the Rhyme). Student engaged in career exploration activities and produced a 3-song EP. Students gravitated to him. Would love to have him back.
Mr. Anderson created a MUSE core curriculum that helped our teachers infuse the arts into their instructional practices. He conducted engaging PD for our teachers and awesome virtual sessions for our students. His attitude and passion are contagious!!!
When Orisirisi African Folklore enter our school; our students, faculty and staff embark on an amazing experience of African Culture. It is interactive, joyous, and all learn about respect, empathy, and feel welcomed to the community that Orisirisi create through music, storytelling and dance.
I have worked with Mrs. Faust for 4 years. All of my classes have LOVED having her. Mrs. Faust teaches the Harlem Renaissance to my 5th graders. She brings the content to life through dance! She creates an unforgettable experience for the students. I can’t teach Harlem Renaissance without her!
Vaughn is an incredibly inspiring artist. He connects quickly and easily with the students that he is teaching, and provides specific feedback that is positive while giving them individual room to grow. His joy for dance radiates, and the students gained actionable tools to better their approach!

Kristin just completed a unit on integrating dance techniques while teaching students how to analyze character traits. It was a phenomenal learning experience for my students! Students were able to use techniques of dance to portray character traits during our masquerade ball!
Ms. Mincey is one of the most innovative choreographers & motivational teachers in the low country area. All my child would talk about is how much she enjoyed Ms. Mincey’s class. She is one of the hardest working teachers I’ve ever met and I think she should be hired full time for DD2 district.
Zimone is an amazing choreographer & teacher. She works well with students building relationships and their trust as she teaches. Prior to being my long term sub while on mat. leave, she choreographed a piece for our dance company that was adjudicated for the Charlotte Ballet HS Dance Fest (2019).
Mr. Cannon has been coming to Harrisburg the last couple of years and has been a huge hit with the kids! His knowledge of drumming and different African cultures is immense and comes out in his teaching. My kids loved having Mr. Cannon and still ask about him! You won’t find anyone better!
James is an outstanding musician, teacher, and person. He constantly engages students, incorporating history, world culture, and visual art within each of his sessions. I bring James in to work with my students every chance I get and highly recommend him to anyone.
Our school has hosted two residencies with James, one in-person and one virtual. In both experiences, James was consistently professional, engaging, and fluid in his delivery of instruction about West African music and culture. He easily connects with students and staff. James is outstanding!
Mr. Cannon served as an Artist-in-Residence for Fine Arts Day at WVE for several years. He engages students with hands-on experiences in African drumming and brings a valuable knowledge and energy into his sessions. He effectively includes students of all ability levels. I would highly recommend!
James is an incredible musician, teacher, and human! His residency on West African drumming was very informational and the students LOVED every minute! We concluded with a performance for the entire school at the end of the week that was featured on the district website. It was an absolute blast!

We have repeatedly used Jef as part of our Theatre residencies as we do not have a certified theatre teacher in our building. He provides not only our students with incredible activities that call upon their depth of knowledge, but also works to provide quality staff development for our teachers.
Kristin truly integrates dance with the academic subject! My students can give a recap of a historical timeline from the end of WWI through 1945 with a choreographed dance they helped Kristin create. Kristin has great classroom management skills too! What fun it is to learn with her for all of us!
Amazing energy and music lessons planned for students. The students enjoyed the theme song Mahoganee introduced and loved when she shared instruments from her travels. We would love for her to come to our school for more musical lessons!
Tim was great! The students loved learning about camouflage and fungi. The lessons were very well thought out and timed perfectly; if you didn’t know better you would have thought he went to school to be a teacher! I couldn’t been happier with our virtual experience together.
Lindsey Anderson worked very well with my elementary students. She taught choreography to my 5th grade students including steps, formations, and musicality. She was very patient with them and helped them to be successful while still challenging them.
I have been fortunate enough to work with Kimberly Roberts through several of her residencies. My students have participated in a “STOMP” percussion residency, a steel drum residency, a literary presentation, and a school-wide concert. I am always impressed with her professionalism and skill!

Lori is deeply knowledgeable on many topics. Not just a jill of all trades, Lori’s knowledge and experience spans Occupational Therapy, working with children on the autism spectrum, project management, group fitness facilitation and more. Lori is a master teacher and multidisciplinary artist.

Mr. Parton combines his art with competition to make a fun day for your students. But the best thing he does is he creates a book for your students, parents, and staff about your school. He is easy to work with to plan the book and your event. He is also reasonably priced.
Mr. Parton came to our school for an author visit. Mr. Parton made the entire process from booking to the presentation easy and seamless. The kids enjoyed his presentation, they were in awe of how he creates his illustrations.
Meredith is a phenomenal artist; particularly patient and encouraging for mixed level dance classes, often found in a public school setting. My students were engaged, pushed to explore new partnerships and improvisational techniques and the dancers loved her choreography!

How would I describe our residency with Yuhas and Dancers? Extraordinary and truly inspiring! Not only does Meredith teach the students’ valuable concepts dance, she teaches them incredible lessons in life. She is a wonderful teacher to students of all levels and can teach a variety of styles.

I originally met Brad at several different arts shows in our area and then invited him to come speak to our elementary students regarding being an artist and an author. His presentation is top-notch and very engaging for the students. They really enjoyed learning from him!

Kristin was a teaching artist for my fifth grade gifted students. Due to COVID restrictions, we had to make it work virtually. She was so creative and energetic. She planned and taught a unit on the Harlem Renaissance Era. Learning about the era, they choreographed movement for each time period.
I had the pleasure of working with Mr. Davis over the last week. Virtually he taught my students the techniques of hidden pictures and how illustrations can help us to create a story. Mr. Davis used a variety of strategies to engage my second graders. As a teacher I learned strategies as well.
Amiri provided a lively interactive art class for our Boys & Girls Club members earlier this month. The children learned about his painting techniques as well as history about Gullah art. It was amazing to see Amiri create a painting in “real time” that was inspired by the children’s ideas.
Amiri Farris was commissioned by the Gullah Museum of Hilton Head Island to create a mural on the museum site. He worked closely w/ founder/executive director Louise Cohen & board members on this project. His vast knowledge of the Gullah culture was invaluable. Installation scheduled in early 2021.
We contracted Amiri to do a zoom artist in residence project at 2 local schools. Materials for the art project were distributed to the schools in advance of the residency, Amiri was very professional in all stages of the process and the students loved working with him. Highly recommend!
Drew Baron worked with the Morris Center to create a short documentary to accompany our Beyond the Oaks: Lowcountry Plantation exhibition. The production value was excellent, and museum visitors raved about the quality of the film. We would highly suggest working with Drew on your next project.
Mr. Boucher recently completed an art residency at one of our high schools. We were so appreciative of the artistry that Mr. Boucher brought with him to share. We are so grateful for his work through Arts Access South Carolina and appreciate his work with us.
