Artist Bio

ShAy Black is a 30 year retired U.S Army veteran, poet, writer, advocate, visual , and teaching artist from Greenville, SC. She’s the owner and artist of ShAy Black Expressions, LLC located in Greenville, SC. She attended Converse College where she received a BFA in ceramics & sculpture and currently obtaining her MFA in creative writing in poetry. Her passion is to teach young artists the joy of creating art as a SmartArts instructor with Metropolitan Art Council and Art Reaching Middle Elementary Schools (ARMES) with Greenville County School district.

Artist Statement

I write and paint with the aim to inspire others to seek inspiration within themselves, like herself, who manages loss, depression, and anxiety. Her craft is the inner voice she no longer hides from the world. I’m the creator of loud words and black art creating beauty out of life’s imperfections. ShAy Expressions bringings people together physically through the arts as dialogue to heal culture differences one heArt at a time. She’s a four time team member of Say What?! Slam Team, Greenville, SC and competed with Team Injustice, Spartanburg, SC. She is the artist of creativity and the believer of undying love.
