We are Allison Dunavant and Christine Crawford of Girls Who Paint Murals – a Southeast based mural duo. We specialize in client-based work which makes us uniquely qualified to work within a wide variety of styles, locations, and subject matters. We are honored and excited to be considered for the opportunity to contribute to the visual arts of the SC Arts Directory. When working with clients, whether it be a public or private wall, our approach is centered on engaging with the community, understanding its multifaceted layers, and translating specific narratives into vibrant and evocative artworks. This is key to creating mural work that will successfully modernize a town, a business, a restaurant, and more, and also encourage viewer engagement. We have seen this happen through the creation of murals in other areas we have painted in; how murals create a sense of community pride for locals and enhance tourism and walkability for visitors. When given creative freedom on designs, we seek to honor the multiplicity of cultural influences that contribute to its unique character while also bringing in elements of design that are central to our own creative practice such as portraiture, botanicals, and collage elements. We envision our art as not just static images on walls but as catalysts for conversation, inspiration, and pride among the residents, encouraging a sense of ownership and belonging within their own narratives. We are eager for the opportunity to create murals, especially in South Carolina, where we are rooted, and are confident that we can create work that achieves anyone’s goals.
