I have been producing my unique artwork for over 45 years. Self-taught, my approach to creating and the use of materials has no boundaries. My work in clay, metal and found objects exemplify my skill, humor, joy in life, and insight to the creative process. These works have been widely exhibited, have become public art and are in many, many private collections. As a teaching artist I strive to convey that art has limitless possibilities and there are no problems only solutions.
When I sit at my studio table or anywhere there is clay around, I just can’t help myself from making an animal sculpture. Take a small ball of clay, roll it into a round shape, add legs, head, ears, detail the face and body and it’s ready for the expression. I really enjoy working with students. To see them make an animal sculpture is so rewarding. I go step by step so everything will be successful through the kiln firing. I will arrive at school with everything we will need to make an animal sculpture, Body, Legs, Head, Tools, etc. I weight out every piece of clay so I know there shouldn’t be any problems in the Kiln firing. It’s like a little assembly line. I will explain the “Patz Process Ceramic Technique” the way to attach the clay to clay without problems.
