• Monday, October 31, 2011—Deadline for schools and teachers to sign up for Poetry Out Loud in South Carolina. Teacher Registration Form (PDF) due to SC Arts Commission.
  
• September - October 2011—Materials sent to participating schools and classrooms. Note: Schools and teachers can only receive program kits if they plan to participate in the official competition; otherwise all materials are available online.
• September - December 2011—Schools implement classroom and school competitions
• Wednesday, December 14, 2011—Deadline for schools to hold school competitions and notify the SC Arts Commission of school champion’s name and grade level.
• Friday, December 16, 2011—Deadline for school champion to register to compete in their assigned regional competition. Student Registration Form due to SC Arts Commission. *Note: Poem selection and order of recitation may not be changed after this date.
• Saturday, January 21, 2012—Region One Regional Competitions, Spartanburg, SC
• Saturday, January 21, 2012—Region Two Regional Competition, Sumter, SC
• Sunday, January 22, 2012—Region Three Regional Competition, Charleston, SC
• Friday, February 3, 2012—Deadline for regional winners to register to compete in State Finals. State Finals Registration Form due to SC Arts Commission. Note: State Finals Registration Form will notify POL Coordinator of student’s poem selections and order of recitation for State Finals. Poem selection and recitation order may not be changed after this date.
• Saturday, March 3, 2012—South Carolina Poetry Out Loud State Finals, Columbia Museum of Art, Columbia, SC, 1:00- 3:00 pm.
• Thursday, April 5, 2012—Deadline for SC’s 2012 State Champion to register for POL National Finals.
• May 13-15, 2012—Poetry Out Loud National Finals, Washington, DC
