About

Artist Statement

I have always been driven by the process of what is currently on my easel. Whether I am painting for myself, a client or instructing a class or workshop, the artistic stages and the understanding of the medium IS the creative process. I am drawn to nature and all that it has to offer. The nature of people, wildlife, and locations.

My work in oil, acrylic and watercolor incorporates many different techniques, textures, styles, and subject matter. Artist of Diversity, a coined term given to me during my first solo exhibit, describes the different styles I can offer the viewer or client making a clear connection for them to the work of art. The enjoyment is only possible if they find delight in the brush strokes and/or the emotion my artwork portrays.

I strive in creating a strong statement with each piece. It may be an energy, a silent and peaceful state, happiness, contemplation, or a new understanding. I take pleasure studying my subject through layers of monochromatic color to learn the essence of the piece, followed by the final layer where creativity is achieved.

Participation in theme exhibitions keeps my creative juices flowing by striving to create a visual understanding of a social topic or producing the best take on a specific theme.

Art is a learned, ongoing process. I accumulate an understanding and hone my skill that influences my art. “When an individual or corporation purchases one of my works, I want the buyer/viewer to strongly connect to the piece making it an investment that will last a lifetime.”
