About

I realize that young people are the most valuable asset that society has to offer and that their minds, through proper educational guidance, can be “opened up” to receive the equally invaluable information necessary for them to contribute positively in this society. I am sensitive to the students’ needs and strengths, as well as to their realistic limitations whether actual, perceived, or imposed. I strive to promote a sense of self-worth and appreciation in each student, whereby, they can become equipped with a trait of humanity which will enable them to respect self and others and to strive for their full potential with the understanding that if they fail, I have failed. In order to better serve the students, I try to stay abreast of current trends in education and techniques and strategies which “help” nurture and develop the inquisitive nature and do whatever I can to ensure the success of the student. If I am able to assist another in carrying out his goal of educating young people, I will willingly lend a hand.

I support the premise that through the arts, we all learn that we are unique and valuable with unlimited creative potential. Participation in the arts unlocks some of the doors that have kept us stagnant and enables us to be more productive beings. We realize that we are only limited by our own imagination. The concept of integrating the arts in the overall curriculum addresses the development of curriculum relative to the arts as a basis for strengthening the arts before an attempt is made to integrate with other areas. Using a thematic approach to introduce concepts and skills, whereby, reinforcement is provided by exposure to similar subject matter in related arts areas, I provide instruction/activities which offer students a broader, more detailed, and comparative explanation of the subject. Emphasis is, thus, placed on the “whole” instead of seeking to provide justification for the significance of any “one” part. It is my view that integration of the arts plays a vital role in education. The cohesiveness of an overall arts program which exemplifies integration of each discipline is an attribute to the general education program.

I am an Arts Access SC Master Teaching Artist with extensive experience at the secondary level.
