Erika Phoenix was born and raised in Greenville, SC and is excited to collaborate with people throughout the state. She received her MFA in Physical Theatre from the Accademia dell’Arte in 2018. She also holds a BA in Theatre Arts, Acting emphasis from Coastal Carolina University. Her Master’s program took place overseas in Italy and her work is heavily influenced by the strong devising and collective creation theatre work made throughout Europe. Erika’s primary focus is theatre arts. She has worked as an actress, director, and scenic artist in addition to her work as a teaching artist. Since 2013 (with a break for grad school), she has been with The Warehouse Theatre where she teaches Shakespeare to elementary through high school students. While abroad, she taught various workshops on subjects like Viewpoints, Voice and Surprise, and The World Theatre Map. This year marks her first year as a SmartARTS teaching artist with MAC in the Upstate. Her approaches include using movement-based exercises and exploration and chorus work in theatre creation. She believes in collective creation as a means to create performances reflect the depth of the whole ensemble.
