About

I am a newly retired art educator in SC, with 28 years of experience at all grade levels. My first 18 years of teaching were at the elementary level and the last 10 have been in high school. I have written numerous grants for arts programs at both levels and have always enjoyed bringing in guest artists. I assisted in the development of the Ceramics facility for the The Art Center in Camden, where I taught pottery classes for several years. I also work as a professional ceramic artist in my home studio where I create mostly functional ceramics in both, stoneware and earthenware. My work can be purchased at several locations in Camden.

I am currently the resident potter at the Historic Camden Foundation, where my role is to share the rich history of Ceramics in Camden through the storytelling of John Bartlam, an English potter who successfully operated a pottery factory in the 1770’s. At least one weekend a month, I can be found in the pottsworks, demonstrating pottery making on a reproduction of an 18th century Staffordshire Rope Wheel. The greatest joy in my teaching career was seeing how students respond to clay and it’s endless possibilities! Outside of the studio, I can found walking in the woods, kayaking, camping or doing just about anything else in the great outdoors.
