The mission of the Spartanburg Little Theatre is to “activate, cultivate, and educate our community through quality theatrical experiences.” Established in 1946, Spartanburg Little Theatre (SLT) is a nonprofessional community theatre organization located in Spartanburg, SC. Presenting 6 musical and nonmusical productions a season as part of its mainstage subscription series, Spartanburg Little Theatre is the resident theater company at the Chapman Cultural Center in Spartanburg’s Downtown Cultural District.

SLT is also home to the Spartanburg Youth Theatre (SYT). Established in 1972, Spartanburg Youth Theatre is one of the only “by youth, for youth” children’s theaters in the state of South Carolina. SYT presents 4 mainstage production a season as part of its subscription series, with a focus on children’s literacy. Each year, over 10,000 educators and children attend one of SYT’s school time performances and are provided with curriculum companions geared to each production and aligning with State of SC educational standards.

SYT also offers two 10-week semesters and a full slate of summer camps as part of its theatre education program for grades 4K-12. SYT educators also provide all of the theatre education programming for the Boys and Girls Clubs of the Upstate and are in residence as theatre educators in Spartanburg County school districts. The new “Storybook Live!” program provides free virtual theatrical/literacy programming and curriculum guides to educators and schoolchildren in Spartanburg County and beyond.
