About

Artist Bio

Sahn the Poet is a first generation Jamaican born in America whose sole mission is to provide a safe space for others to gain freedom through expressive testimony. Sahn believes there is strength in vulnerability and aims to re-fragment the negative connotation that the world seems to attach to that very word. Since as early as 2015, Sahn has begun sharing her original works with public audiences. Sahn is a silent storm passionate about providing concepts of healing and overcoming traumas so that we may all develop into the best versions of ourselves.

Sahn has competed in and won multiple poetry slams as well as been commissioned for multiple features. She has competed with WitsEnd Poetry, Slam Charlotte, Blackberry Peach in Daytona Beach FL 2022, Southern Fried Poetry Festival 2022-2024, Food4Thought in Richmond, VA 2022-2023, WOWPS Womxn Fest 2023 in Baltimore, MD, OneWord Poetry Slam in Charlotte NC, and so many other festivals. She currently co-produces performance shows with Dove Dupree for their Intentional Ink non-profit and is an original founding member of The Lotus Generation collective based out of Charlotte, NC. Sahn has received superior ratings for her original works on a national level and has successfully placed second in the region on a competitive 5 man slam team in June of 2024.

With a background in musical performance art, deriving from her birth city of Columbia, SC, Sahn currently resides in Moore, SC but consistently travels across the nation in hopes to impact lives across the country.

Artist Statement

The idea of anyone being a slave to their own silence haunts me.

I actively work towards combining my own personal experiences with that of inspiration and empowerment to help people feel bold enough to speak up. Being a first generation Jamaican born in America has afforded me a different lens to see certain traumas through. It has allowed me the privilege to understand, to a degree, both struggles of either country. I have used my unique experience to help frame the work that I do in a way where I aim to be palatable to multiple audiences.

It is my mission to always remain honest and earnest throughout my work. Having a background in both music and art, these mediums paired with pretty language, allows me to connect better with the people of this world and allow them a snapshot, even if only for a moment, of who I truly am at my core, and what I truly stand for in my being.

It is my consistent goal to continue to stretch myself in my artistry and allow space for supporters of my work to grow with me. I enjoy exploring how I can infuse different mediums of my artistic capabilities into my performance art to create a more immersive experience for my audience.
