Artist Bio

Lynne Holcombe graduated from Loyola University New Orleans with a BA in Music Therapy in 2004. A Greenville native and Fine Arts Center alumni, Lynne has served as the music director of several upstate schools and has utilized her degree working with a diverse set of adults and children, including those with special needs. Currently she is teaching music enrichment classes for pre-k through early elementary age children with her business Music Adventure, as well as participating in the Smart Arts program through the Metropolitan Arts Council.

Lynne has been writing songs and performing since the early 2000’s. She toured the country in various solo and duo acts including Clide vs Crocodiles. She has performed in and developed a number of ensembles, including the California Bay Area based folk-rock band Paper Crocodiles, Greenville’s neo-americana band Shufflebutton and visuals-heavy roots-folk band Shadowband. In the summer of 2021 Lynne joined Tuba Gin, an upstate SC band heavily influenced by the music of New Orleans. She often performs folk based original songs both solo and in small ensembles.

Artist Statement

I think of music as both a form and tool of connection. In performing, creating, teaching, and working with children for over 25 years, I continue to take pride in successfully connecting with students across a wide range of abilities and life experiences, and helping them to grow in their own unique musical journeys. As a multi-instrumentalist who plays piano, banjo, guitar, ukulele and washboard, I have cultivated experience performing for audiences with diverse interests. It is so fulfilling to see firsthand how music can strengthen understanding and learning in such a wide variety of environments.

By day I teach classes in upstate communities for kids of all ages. In the evenings I perform from my own own original songbook that I have developed as a singer and songwriter. Preservation of folk roots music is important to me and is apparent in my sound and repertoire. In recent years I’ve turned my focus on Jazz and Blues in being a part of a band inspired by the sounds of New Orleans, in which I mostly play keys, banjo, washboard and sing vocals.

In my recent work in schools via artist residencies and the Metropolitan Arts Council Smart Arts program, I have used music to facilitate the teaching of early learners on varied topics including Earth Sciences, using music to create scenes that immerse students in the different environments of our world. As well as teaching basic music theory concepts, I draw from the experience and knowledge obtained from my B.A. in Music Therapy and use music to build on curriculum relating to pre-reading skills, reading, math, history, science, socialization, learning skills, self confidence and other creative outlets. My lessons also include the use of tactile cloths, puppets, props, sounds, instruments and varied imagery that all aim to bring the experience of musical connection to life.
