About
Barracuda Steel Drums is a source of hand-crafted steelpan instruments and a provider of resources for the steelpan community worldwide.
As a professional pan tuner, Emily Lemmerman has uncommon access to and perspective on the global steelband landscape. She works with bands around the world- not only as a tuner, but also as an educator, clinician, adviser, and performer. With a formal background in classical music and over 20 years of experience in the field, Emily is one of few people intensively immersed in the broad range of major steelband communities that exist around the world. Emily is a passionate advocate for collaboration and celebration of the diversity that enriches these communities across the nation. She is active internationally, working regularly in the Caribbean and Europe, and brings those enriching experiences to schools across the US.
Of course the pandemic has interrupted our ideal culture of work, but I normally travel from my home base studio in Austin TX all over the world to provide my services – and I regularly travel to South Carolina. The nature of percussion is already a social-distanced activity, so even during the past two years, I have been able to travel to and work with programs on-site (carefully and responsibly!) from Seattle to Switzerland to Summerville.
We are all hopeful that we are entering a more normalized time that is conducive to returning to in-person work, but I can and have also effectively and successfully presented clinics, lectures, performances and coaching sessions virtually via Zoom.
