2023/2024 Details

• This year’s course will be offered twice. The six-week sessions will meet weekly via Zoom for group sessions in the fall and winter. There will be individual coaching sessions for each participant as well.
• Participants are required to attend each of the six scheduled sessions of the course. By the end, you can expect to have a comprehensive understanding of how to create a long-form business plan that is tailored to your unique artistic goals and aspirations.
• In addition to honing a business-savvy skillset, participants who fully complete the course and the course survey will receive a $200 honorarium and a one-hour consultation with instructors Tangie Beaty and Arischa Conner.

The ideal candidate is a mid-career artist with an independent body of work. They have received recognition through publication or public presentation of their work and are prepared to present their work to a broader audience.

Participant requirements:

• At least 18 years of age
• Current resident of South Carolina
• Not enrolled in a degree-granting program

PRE-APPLICATION COACHING SESSION

• Course descriptions

  This year’s course is designed to teach creatives how to create a business plan for their artistic endeavors.

  Each week, your instructors will coach you through a different aspect of business planning, such as:

  • Introduction to Business Planning for Creatives
  • Defining Your Artistic Vision and Goals
  • Market Analysis and Customer Segmentation
  • Financial Planning and Forecasting

  By the end of the course, you can expect to have a comprehensive understanding of how to create a long-form business plan that is tailored to your unique artistic goals and aspirations.

  COURSE PRE-REQUISITES

  All accepted AEI participants will be required to complete a viewing of the one-hour course which is available as a recording. (Access will be provided to all accepted applicants who did not participate in the initial, 2021/2022 AEI 101 workshop, Better Business for Creatives.) This pre-requisite will allow for a good foundation prior to the start of this year’s session.

  Additionally, the facilitators will provide a brief pre-assessment which is required for all accepted participants to complete before the start of the session.

• Meet the instructors

  Bold! Innovative! Creative! Revolutionary! Artistic!

  All these terms are used to describe Tangie Brickhouse-Beaty! Tangie is the owner and founder of WOW Productions, one of the fastest growing and largest urban production companies in South Carolina, as well as casting director/founder of WOW Casting Agency and executive director of WOW Performing Arts Center in Columbia. As a national award-winning playwright, producer, writer, director, screenwriter, and casting director—coupled with more than 20 years’ experience—Tangie has produced more than 30 theatre productions; co-written three film projects; and written, directed and produced a limited TV series, “Secrets in Plain Sight,” streaming nationally on Tubi.  In addition, Tangie has promoted and produced regional and national star-studded touring stage plays. More recently, Tangie can be found working as a casting director for number of film, TV, stage, commercial and voice over projects.

  Tangie is proud that God has used her to make a mark in history as being the first African American woman to open the first urban black box theatre (WOW Performing Arts Center) in South Carolina and as well as being the founder of the first weekly drivetime gospel radio station, Continual Praise Radio Broadcast, in Bridgeport, Connecticut.

  As a serial entrepreneur, Tangie utilizes her experience and resourcefulness to build and execute several business ventures. Tangie began her 20-year professional career at KPMG Peat Marwick in the federal tax division. She went on to office management at Pitney Bowes and human resources management at Yale University. She received an accounting degree from Gibbs College, a human resource management certification from Yale, and is currently studying business management from Ashworth College. Over the span of two decades, Tangie has used her leadership and experience to serve as a business coach and mentor to aspiring and new entrepreneurs, where she is able to provide them with solid guidance, resources, and support, as they begin their journey in business ownership.

  Tangie is the proud wife of Thomas Beaty for over 26 years. Together they have two amazing sons,  James and Isaiah, and the cutest grandson in the world, Elijah.

  Arischa Conner is an actor, voice over artist, narrator, singer, mom, wife, and educator who lives in the southeast region of the United States. She studied acting at Hampton and Claflin universities and has studied with Lon Bumgarner, Lesly Kahn, Christine Horn, and the Margie Haber Studios. She has appeared on numerous network and streaming television shows including the Emmy Award-winning limited series “Dopesick” on Hulu and critically-acclaimed limited series “The Last Days of Ptolemy Grey” and “Swagger,” both streaming on AppleTV+. She has appeared on various platforms including Fox, The CW, Netflix, Amazon Prime, and Paramount+.

  The warmth and richness of Arischa’s voice; coupled with her background in improv, acting and storytelling; allows her to bring words to life in various genres including, but not limited to, sci-fi, fantasy, historical fiction, self-help, non-fiction, and a cozy romance. She was nominated for the prestigious Audie Awards and she is an Earphone Award winner for her narration of the book Patchwork by bestselling author Matt de la Peña. In her spare time, Arischa loves to play her ukuleles and sing the night away… in private (that’s why she loves to stay behind the mic). Arischa has a love for education and continues to work with aspiring actors in and around her community.
