The Elizabeth O'Neill Verner Awards

Steven Rosenberg

2011 Individual Award

An administrator, performer and educator, Steven Rosenberg has helped to establish the significance of early music for the state and region by devoting his career to educating and inspiring individuals to learn more about an historical art form that provides the underlying structure of current musical forms. He founded the Piccolo Spoleto Early Music Series in 1986, and still directs the program, which has staged more than 380 concerts featuring internationally renowned ensembles. A music professor at the College of Charleston since 1985, Rosenberg serves as director of the Department of Music and coordinator of the Monday Night Concert Series, a program of more than 650 concerts that has served as a vital part of the Charleston cultural arts scene, bringing South Carolina artists as well as national and international musicians to the college. Both programs further define the uniqueness of Charleston and South Carolina and embrace an historical perspective of the arts.
