Work by South Carolina Artists
SouthernArtistry.org is an online artist registry designed to showcase the South's artistic diversity and excellence by spotlighting outstanding artists of all disciplines that live and work in the region. These artists are nominated based on the quality of their work by state arts agencies in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Tennessee. The registry is administered by Southern Arts Federation (SAF), a not-for-profit regional arts organization.
SouthernArtistry.org provides artists with an online platform from which to expand their audience, publicize their work, and articulate their artistic philosophy. Each artist on the registry has their own page or portfolio, which includes samples of the artist’s work (images, audio, video, or writing samples), their biography and contact information.
Is there a charge to use the registry?
Visiting the SouthernArtistry.org Web site is always free. Users may browse the listings and run simple searches without registration, or choose to register for a free account and get access to additional information, such as advanced search features and artist contact information. Artists who are nominated for inclusion on the registry may create their online portfolio free, or pay a fee to have it created for them.
How are artists nominated?
The registry is intended for artists working at a fellowship level of artistic quality. Each state submits nominations once per year (usually in the spring or summer), and the criteria for inclusion varies by state. The main way for South Carolina artists to qualify for Southern Artistry is to be selected through one of the Arts Commission's existing juried processes (e.g. Fiction Project, Verner Awards, Fellowships). Artists who qualify through these juried processes are automatically nominated for Southern Artistry in the next available round. Additional ways in which an artist might become eligible for Southern Artistry are currently being considered.
