S.C. Arts Commission Awards $5,668 in Quarterly Grants

COLUMBIA, S.C. – The South Carolina Arts Commission has awarded four arts organizations and two artists with grants this quarter (January-March 2008) to fund their arts-centered projects.

 

Third-quarter grant recipients are:

 

Quarterly Grants for Artists

  • Axel Forrester, Pickens County, $1,000 to create a video installation project at the S.C. Governor’s School for the Arts and Humanities
  • Liisa Jasinski, Newberry County, $668 to purchase digital studio equipment

 

Quarterly Grants for Organizations

  • Oro United Methodist Church, Chesterfield County, $1,000 for a folk and gospel music concert

  • Project Turn Around, Chesterfield County, $1,000 to offer a youth arts program

  • Bluegrass on the Waccamaw, Horry County, $1,000 to organize a bluegrass festival

  • Palm Key Institute, Jasper County, $1,000 to hold a three-day blues festival


Quarterly grants are available to arts organizations and to individual artists for a wide variety of arts projects and programs, and/or for professional development opportunities. The Arts Commission awards grants up to $1,000 for project support. The "John and Susan Bennett Memorial Arts Fund" of the Coastal Community Foundation of South Carolina (www.ccfgives.org.) helps fund the program.

 

The next deadline for Quarterly Project Support and Cultural Visions grant applications is February 15 for projects beginning April through June 2008. For complete guidelines and eligibility requirements, visit the Arts Commission Web site or call (803) 734-8696.
