COLUMBIA, S.C. –The John F. Kennedy Memorial Center for the Performing Arts has accepted the S.C. Arts Commission's invitation to make South Carolina the site of the National Symphony Orchestra's 2008 American Residency. Between Feb. 8 and 16, 2008, Orchestra members will participate in five orchestral concerts and dozens of activities throughout the state. The Arts Commission is now accepting requests from South Carolina presenters interested in participating in educational or outreach activities.
The full orchestral concert schedule is as follows:
Saturday, Feb. 9: Clover School District Auditorium, Clover
Sunday, Feb. 10: Greenville Symphony Orchestra, Peace Center, Greenville
Monday, Feb. 11: Brooks Center for the Performing Arts, Clemson University, Clemson
Tuesday, Feb. 12: USC Symphony Orchestra, Koger Center for the Arts, Columbia
Friday, Feb. 15: Aiken Performing Arts, USC-Aiken Convocation Center, Aiken

Presenters can request the Orchestra for a variety of activities, including in-school ensembles, clinics, master classes, pre-concert events, community service performance and arts education advocacy. New ideas for activities can also be submitted.
For example, a composition teacher at the University of Maine requested an NSO ensemble to perform his students' compositions, critiquing them from the point of view of professional instrumentalists, explaining what worked and didn't work in terms of instrumental writing.
All activity request forms must be submitted by Oct. 1. A separate form must be completed for each specific activity. The Arts Commission will prepare the list of the requests and prioritize them for the National Symphony Orchestra. The Orchestra will then fulfill as many of those requests as logistics, scheduling and budgetary limitations allow.
