S.C. Arts Commission Kicks Off 40th Anniversary Celebration, Unveils New Logo at Statewide Conference Sept. 10-11

COLUMBIA, S.C. –The South Carolina Arts Commission will commence the celebration of its 40th anniversary with the unveiling of its new logo during the 2007 Statewide Arts Conference Sept. 10-11 at the Newberry Opera House. The logo, which has gone unchanged for more than 30 years, will be unveiled during the opening session of the conference, where approximately 150 arts leaders from across the state, as well as professionals from New York, Washington, D.C., Georgia, North Carolina and South Carolina will be in attendance.
Co-sponsored by the SC Arts Commission, the SC Arts Alliance and the SC Arts Foundation, the conference brings together artists, arts administrators and arts educators for a jam-packed two-day schedule of informative training workshops, networking sessions, and the Scottie Awards event, where Dr. Leo Twiggs will be honored for his outstanding commitment to and leadership in arts education.
Nationally acclaimed audience development expert Donna Walker-Kuhne will deliver the keynote address during the opening session. Walker-Kuhne, the president of New York City-based Walker International Communications Group will also lead a workshop, where she will share strategies for engaging diverse communities as participants in arts and culture.
Additional workshops will be presented by experts from Washington, D.C., Atlanta, Raleigh, and South Carolina. For example, National Endowment for the Arts Director of Local Arts Agencies Patrice Powell and Southern Arts Federation Executive Director Gerri Combs will be partnering with Gale Bivines, South Carolina Parks, Recreation and Tourism’s Tourism Partnership Fund manager, to present a workshop on arts funding.
Other topics include arts in the community, economic impact, cultural tourism, community design, online technology and marketing.
