Grants Encourage Arts Initiatives in South Carolina Communities

COLUMBIA, S.C. –The South Carolina Arts Commission has awarded $4,585 in Quarterly Project Support grants during its last round of fiscal 2008 funding. Grants this quarter will help support artists, nonprofit arts organizations and arts events in communities throughout the state.

 

Fourth-quarter grant recipients are:

  • Bluegrass on the Waccamaw, Horry County, $400 to promote a bluegrass festival
  • Honea Path Arts Center, Anderson County, $950 to conduct art classes at the center
  • Olde Town Preservation Association, Aiken County, $500 for the fifth annual Artisan’s Fair at the Living History Park
  • Robert Michael Holliday, Pickens County, $600 to purchase music equipment for his studio
  • Pendleton District History and Recreation Commission, Anderson County, $585 to hold an open artist studio tour
  • S.C. Hispanic Leadership Council, Richland County, $600 to organize the "Escuincles Traveling Arts Display" and a Latin poetry contest
  • Town of Ridgeway, Fairfield County, $950 to hold the "Arts on the Ridge" arts festival

 

Quarterly grants are available to arts organizations and to individual artists for a wide variety of arts projects and programs, and for professional development opportunities. The Arts Commission awards grants of up to $1,000 for project support. The John and Susan Bennett Memorial Arts Fund of the Coastal Community Foundation of South Carolina (www.ccfgives.org) helps fund the program.
