COLUMBIA, S.C. – Public Art 360: Symposium from Seven Perspectives takes place April 11-12 at the Hanes Art Center at the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill campus. The day and a half symposium will address current and future directions of public art from the perspectives of the artist, architect, landscape designer, government, private developer, community and critic.
The S.C. Arts Commission, Percent for Art Collaborative, N.C. Arts Council, and the Orange County Arts Commission are presenting the event. It is open to anyone who wants to learn more about the role public art and artists play in the built environment.
Attendees will learn why public and private organizations ask artists to create projects that reinvigorate shared, public and urban spaces. Seven keynote discussions will address critical issues, such as how to initiate, obtain approval, acquire funding, and implement public art projects.
Register by Feb. 22 at $60 or at $70 afterward. Registration fee includes both opening and closing receptions and lunch on April 12. A list of speakers, registration forms and additional information are available at http://publicartcollaborative.org. Mail forms and fees to Public Arts 360, Orange County Arts Commission, P.O.
