S.C. Artists' Ventures Initiative

Artists involved in the planning process identified the need to strengthen artist networks. The S.C. Artists' Ventures Initiative will offer several artist gatherings to encourage networking and idea sharing across the state and across all disciplines.

Online gatherings
The S.C. Artists' Ventures Initiative blog is an ongoing gathering of artists sharing ideas and articles of interest. Artists may submit comments, post links to their own blogs, and browse calls for submissions and auditions through this online forum.

S.C. artist retreat May 2009
A statewide, all-discipline artist retreat was held on May 30 & 31, 2009, at the S.C. Governor's School for the Arts and Humanities in Greenville. Workshops and dialogues were designed to deliver information that artists can use in their artistic practice, in their personal lives, in their communities, and in their businesses. There were also sessions that encouraged artists to explore ways they might work together for their mutual benefit and support. Additional retreats and other gatherings may be planned depending upon artist feedback.

Statewide Arts Conference to include artist interest sessions
The 2009 Statewide Arts Conference is planned for Sept. 15 in Columbia. Details about artist sessions will be added as plans are confirmed.
