South Carolina Fiction Project

About the S.C. Fiction Project

The South Carolina Fiction Project is now a biennial writing competition, sponsored by Sandlapper Magazine and the South Carolina Arts Commission. The competition calls for previously unpublished short stories of 2,500 words or less. Up to eight stories will be selected for publication over a two-year period. Each writer whose work is selected will receive $250 from Sandlapper, which purchases first-publication rights.

The next deadline is Oct. 1, 2012.

History

Since 1984, the Fiction Project has showcased emerging and established South Carolina writers, with a mission to support the growth and development of the state’s literary community, writers and readers alike. The S. C. Arts Commission and The Charleston Post and Courier have co-sponsored the Fiction Project since 1993. Before that time, The State newspaper co-sponsored the literary competition.
