7/13/2007

Hello everyone,

The SC Arts Commission marks its 40th anniversary this year, and we hope you’ll join the celebration! Our kick-off event is the Statewide Arts Conference in September, the first such conference held in several years. Other 40th anniversary activities include the First Novel competition and a performance by the National Symphony Orchestra; our regular activities will have anniversary components as well. Stay tuned for more information about how you or your organization can participate!.

In this issue:

CELEBRATING OUR PAST, CONNECTING OUR FUTURE!
Make plans to attend the 2007 Statewide Arts Conference in Newberry, Sept. 10 and 11, co-sponsored by the SC Arts Commission and the SC Arts Alliance. We'll kick off the conference with a celebration of the Arts Commission’s 40th anniversary, and then offer workshops designed to inform your work and provide tools for the present and the future. We’ve built networking time into the schedule, and we’ll cap off the first evening with the Scottie Award Event, where the SC Arts Alliance will honor artist Dr. Leo Twiggs. Registration is $140 per person for individuals representing organizations, and $70 per person for individual artists not employed by arts organizations.  Visit Statewide Arts Conference for more information or to register. Registration deadline is Aug. 20.

The Arts Commission has teamed up with the SC Philharmonic, Trustus Theatre, The Power Company, the Nickelodeon, and the Columbia Museum of Art to launch the program. Road Show members will visit each of the participating arts organizations to learn about the art form, try their hand at creating art and take backstage tours.
