Herb Parker to Construct Project in Netherlands
Herb Parker will travel to the Netherlands this May to construct a project for Natuurkunst Drenthe. The organization is inviting ten artists each year to build work in the environment. Parker is the only American invited this year.

Elizabeth Melton's "Shades of Gray" Exhibits at Winthrop
Elizabeth Melton’s “Shades of Gray” was on exhibit at the Lewandawski Student Gallery in McLaurin Hall at Winthrop University during March and April.

Kissel's "Beyond the Classroom: China" Premiers at USC's Russell House"
"Beyond the Classroom: China" (2007, 30 min.) premiered at the University of South Carolina Russell House in February.
The film, directed and edited by Laura Kissel, depicts China's important historical sites and contemporary social issues through the eyes of undergraduate students from USC as they travel from cosmopolitan cities to rural mountain towns and industrial centers. The film highlights the importance of international travel as an educational experience and reveals how cultural exchange can expand and enrich our understanding of the world.
Kissel's Essay Film Screens at St. Mary's College in Maryland
Laura Kissel screened her nonfiction essay film "Cabin Field" and select works-in-progress as part of the Experimental Documentary Film Series at St. Mary's College of Maryland in February.
Laura Kissel Screens "Unfettering the Falcons"
Laura Kissel's documentary short, "Unfettering the Falcons" screened at the American Film Institute’s Silver Theatre in Silver Springs, M.D., in October as part of a program of award winning shorts produced during the 2007 International Documentary Challenge.
"Unfettering the Falcons" also screened at the Indie Grits Film Festival in Columbia, S.C., April 10, at the Atlanta Film Festival April 17, and at the Nashville Film Festival April 23.
Kissel Receives Fulbright Award and Humanities Council S.C. Grant
Kissel has been awarded a Fulbright Award to travel to China in 2009 for the production of a documentary on South Carolina cotton and globalization. The Humanities Council S.C. has also awarded her a grant to begin the production of the cotton and globalization documentary.
Howard Kingkade's Screenplay Goes to Hollywood
Dr. Howard Kingkade's original screenplay,
Update: Dr. Kingkade's original screenplay has won Best Screenplay and Best Short Film at the Beverly Hills International Film Festival. It has also been selected to screen at the Florida Film Festival in Orlando and the Rhode Island International Film Festival.
John Benjamin Gilliam's Work to be Included in New Publication

John Benjamin Gilliam's "Ibex Goblet" and "Ibex Vase" will be included in Lark Books"500 Metal Vessels" which will be released in early 2008. The book includes a juried collection of contemporary, handmade metal vessels by metalsmiths from around the planet.
The publication aims to be an inspiring collection for beginning and professional metalsmiths, as well as collectors and metals enthusiasts.
