Damond L. Howard
Damond Howard is an art professor at Claflin University in Orangeburg. With a master's degree in fine arts from the University of Florida, Howard has taught art at Benedict College, Kenyon College in Ohio, as well as at University of Florida and Santa Fe Community College, both in Gainesville, Fla.
Earlier this year, Howard displayed his exhibition, “Still America’s Greatest Problem,” at the Downtown Gallery of the University of Tennessee at Knoxville. In 2007, he was recognized by The Center for Excellence in Teaching at Claflin University and was invited to exhibit his artwork at the Hammonds House galleries and Resource Center for African American Art in Atlanta, Ga. He was awarded a merit award at the Regional Juried Art Exhibition from the College of Wooster Art Museum in Ohio in 2003, and received both the Mayor's Purchase Award (first place) and an honorable mention at the Moja Arts Festival Juried Art Exhibition in Charleston in 2002. Howard also served as an artist-in-residence with master artist Kerry James Marshall at the Atlantic Center for the Arts in Florida in 2001.
